Resources & help
If you are in crisis
Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US), 24/7. In immediate danger, call 911.
Peer support (not crisis care)
Recovering from Religion offers a peer support helpline at 844-368-2848 and chat. It is peer support and is not a crisis line.
Finding a therapist
- Check that the therapist is licensed in the state where you are sitting during sessions. Telehealth generally requires this.
- Look up the license on your state board's website. This directory does not verify licenses.
- Ask about approach and experience with religious transitions. "Religious trauma" is a term in common use but is not a formal diagnosis.
Coaching vs. therapy
Coaching supports goals and growth. It is not therapy and does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions.
About polarizing sources
Some listed resources take strong positions for or against the LDS Church, or point toward staying or leaving. They are included for reference. We don't endorse them or vouch for their claims.
